Matt Peterson

Division Chief Matt Peterson is the Districts Training Officer.  Matt started his fire service career in 2003 as a volunteer with Dexter Rural Fire District. While at Dexter Fire he held many ranks including Firefighter/EMT, Lieutenant, Captain, District Chief, Interim Fire Chief and Fire Chief for nearly 5 years. Chief Peterson came to Mohawk Valley Fire in July of 2022 after resigning as the Fire Chief at Dexter.

He has worked and or volunteered in several agencies including Pacific West Ambulance, Newport Fire, Oakridge Fire & EMS, Rural/Metro Ambulance, and Oregon Department of Forestry among others. He has taught at Pioneer Pacific College and earned his EMT Basic and Intermediate from Chemeketa Community College. He is an NFPA Instructor 2 and Fire Officer 2.

Chief Peterson brings a passion to training and has attended numerous classes in Oregon as well as several classes outside of the state including the University of Nevada Reno's Fire Science Academy Flammable liquids and gas course, CBURN course in Alabama, Train car technician course and Crude by Rail course in Colorado as well as attending the National Fire Academy Challenges for local training officers course in Emmitsburg Maryland.
